STAGE DOORS ON BROADWAY

Picture

Al Hirschfeld Theatre

To the left of the entrance and down a bit, with a large metal gate.  The good thing about this stage door is that, if it's a shriek-inducing star like Daniel Radcliffe in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," and you can't get within spitting distance of the barricades, you can cross the street to the stoop of the apartment building directly across from the stage door and try to get a good vantage point for a photo at least.

Ambassador Theatre

This door is a set of gates immediately to the left of the entrance as you exit (right as you face the theater) and is not marked.

American Airlines Theater

This is a tricky one: the official stage door is on 43rd St. (entrance to the theater is on 42nd St.).  But the actors may leave through the front of the theater, and may exit out the back through the stage door (43rd).  You can ask a theater staff member if they know the drill for that cast. You can exit the theater directly onto 43rd St., so it is probably safest to do that if you don't have other info.

August Wilson Theatre

This stage door is to the right as you exit the theater, and is marked.

Belasco Theatre

The stage door is to the right of the theater entrance as you exit.
Picture

Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre

This theater may use more than one stage door (I have been to shows that used one or the other). The main one is just to the right of the theatre entrance as you exit and the other is to the left as you exit, on the same alley that houses the Golden Theatre stage door, so the actors for shows in both those theaters may exit from in that alley. I would ask a theater staffer to make sure.

Booth Theatre

If you come out on the corner, turn to your right and go just a little ways and the door is marked on your right.  If you go out the front on 43rd St., turn right out of the door, turn right at the alley (next to Junior's Deli) and the marked door will be on your right.

Broadhurst Theatre

This door is clearly marked and is to the right of the entrance as you exit the theatre.

Broadway Theatre

Tricky one:  as you exit the theatre, turn left and then left again at the corner of 53rd St..  The stage door is a little ways down the block on your left. Look for the barricades.
Picture
Picture

Brooks Atkinson Theatre

As you exit the theatre, turn left and the stage door is not very far down on your left.
Picture
Picture

Circle in the Square Theatre

The actors exit through the lobby on the plaza, and the barricades are set up right in front of where you entered the theater.
Picture
Picture

Cort Theater

The stage door is to the left of the theater as you exit and is not marked.  It's a large metal door with promotional poster art generally on the front.
Picture
Picture

Ethel Barrymore Theatre

Go to the left of the theater as you exit and look for the marked metal door.
Picture
Picture

Eugene O'Neill Theatre

To the left of the theater entrance as you exit.
Picture

Lyric Theatre

In the tricky category: main entrance to the theatre is on 42nd St., but the stage door is on the 43rd St. side (go left out of the entrance and then turn left onto 7th and then left again on 43rd and go down the block just a bit, stage door will be on left).  You can also exit the theatre on 43rd and then the stage door is to your left.
Picture
Picture

George Gershwin Theatre

The entrance to the theater is on 51st St. and there is also an entrance on the plaza in between 50th & 51st next to the lobby entrance for Circle in the Square.  The Gershwin stage door is on 51st St., so if you exit the theater on the plaza, go to your right and then turn left onto 51st and the stage door will be on your left and is marked.  If you exit on 51st St., just go to your left and look for the door.

Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre

The marked stage door is on your left as you exit the theater.
Picture
Picture

Helen Hayes Theatre

The stage door is to the left of the theater as you exit.
Picture
Picture

Hudson Theatre

Tricky one: The main theater entrance is on 44th St., but the stage door is on 45th St. Exit the theater (which is closer to 7th Ave), and make a right out of the theater and a right at 7th Ave. and a right onto 45th St. and the marked stage door will be on your right about halfway up the block towards 6th Ave.
Picture
Picture

Imperial Theatre

Tricky one: The main theater entrance is on 45th St., but the stage door is on 46th St. You should be able to exit on 46th St. as well and the stage door should be to your right as you exit, but if you exit out onto 45th, then make a right out of the theater and a right at 8th Ave. and a right onto 46th St. and the marked stage door will be on your right past the theater entrance.
Picture
Picture

The John Golden Theater

The stage door is to the left of the theater as you exit and is actually the end of a long outdoor corridor that comes out as a driveway.  The sidewalk is narrow and the crowd lines up lengthwise behind the barricades on either side of the wide exit.
Picture
Picture

Longacre Theatre

The stage door is to the right of the theater entrance as you exit the theater and is marked to the right of the metal door.
Picture
Picture

Lunt-Fontanne Theatre

The stage door is to the right of the theater entrance as you exit.
Picture
Picture
Picture

Lyceum Theatre

This is another tricky one and you have to hustle to avoid missing some of the actors.  The entrance to the theater is on 45th St. between 6th and 7th Aves., but the stage door is on 46th St. closest to 7th Ave. next to restaurant.  Exit the theater, turn right, go down to 7th Ave, and make a right and then a right again at 46th St. and the stage door will be about a third of the way up the block on your right just past the parking garage entrance.
Picture
Picture
Picture

Majestic Theatre

The stage door is back on the same alley that houses the Golden Theatre stage door on 45th St. so the actors for shows in both those theaters exit from in that alley.  So from the entrance to the Majestic on 44th, turn right as you exit, go down to 8th Ave and make a right and then right again on 45th and walk a bit up the block to the wide gated entrance with metal doors on your right just before the Golden Theater.
Picture
Picture

Marquis Theatre

Theater entrance is on Broadway, but the stage door is on 45th St.  Go to your right as you exit the front entrance and make a right on 45th St. and the stage door is on your right behind the pillar.  If you come out of the theater on the plaza, go to your left and make a left at 45th St. and it will be on your left.
Picture
Picture

Minskoff Theatre

The main entrance to the theater is on a plaza/alley in between 45th and 44th (there's a marquee on 45th), the stage door is in the plaza/alley, so exit the theater through the lobby into the plaza and turn to your left and the stage door should be on your left and is marked.
Picture

Music Box Theatre

The stage door is to the right of the theater entrance as you exit and is marked.
Picture
Picture

Nederlander Theatre

This is one Broadway theater where the stage door and the theater entrance are one and the same.  Just come out of the theater where you entered and hang out in front and keep a sharp eye out for actors as they exit.
Picture
Picture

Neil Simon Theatre

The stage door is to the left of the theater entrance as you exit and is marked.
Picture
Picture

New Amsterdam Theatre

The entrance to the theater is on 42nd St., but the stage door is on 41st St.  You can exit the theater on 41st St. and the stage door will be on your right as you exit.  If you exit on 42nd St., turn right as you exit and then right again on Broadway and right again on 41st St. and the marked door will be on your right.
Picture
Picture

New York City Center

Theater entrance is on W 55th St. between 6th & 7th Aves., but the stage door is on 56th in same spot.  Exit the theater and go left and there's a public access corridor to 56th just on your left.  Go through that corridor and then go left on 56th and the stage door will be on your left.
Picture
Picture

Palace Theatre

Theater entrance is on 7th Ave., but the stage door is on 47th St., so exit the theater and turn right and then right again on 47th and the stage door will be on your right just up from the corner.
Picture
Picture

Richard Rodgers Theatre

The stage door is to the left of the theater entrance as you exit and is marked.
Picture
Picture

Samuel J. Friedman Theatre

The stage door is to the right of the theater entrance as you exit.
Picture
Picture

Shubert Theatre

The stage door is in the alley to the left of the theater and is marked.  If you come out of the theater onto 43rd St., turn left and then left again at the alley and the stage door will be on your left.   If you come out the corner entrance just turn sharply left into the alley.  If you come out the theater side entrance into the alley, the stage door will be on your left.
Picture
Picture

St. James Theatre

The stage door is to your left as you exit the theater's front entrance and is marked.  Be aware that if you exit out of the long corridor onto the street, the stage door is immediately to your left.  It is also possible that the actors may exit down that corridor after the audience has left, instead of through the stage door, so keep your eyes open.
Picture
Picture

Stephen Sondheim Theatre

The stage door is in the plaza/alley to the left of the theater entrance.  Go left out of the front doors of the theater and then go left at the end of the building into the plaza and you'll see the barricades in front of a glassed entrance with a security desk inside.
Picture

Studio 54

Tricky one:  The entrance to the theater is on 54th St. but the stage door is on 53rd St. just to the left as you exit that side of the theater.  If you exit on 54th, turn left and then left again at 8th Ave. and then left again at 53rd and go up the block and it will be on your left and is marked.
Picture
Picture

Vivian Beaumont Theatre

Part of Lincoln Center. After the show, exit out the doors, and then go downstairs towards the ticket office. Continue to your left and head down to the glass doors leading out to the alley, and turn left towards the street. The stage door is on the left with a ramp.
Picture

Walter Kerr Theatre

_The stage door is just to the right of the theater as you exit and is marked.
Picture
Picture

Winter Garden Theatre

Tricky one: The main theater entrance is on Broadway but the stage door is on the back side of the theater on 7th Ave. middle of the block between 5oth and 51st.  You may be able to leave the theater on the 7th avenue side and the stage door would be on your right as you exit.  If you exit onto Broadway, turn left as you exit and then left again onto 50th St. and then left onto 7th Ave. and the stage door will be on your left and is marked.
