Stage Presence...
the occasional thoughts of a theater fan
I think Twitter is one of the best gifts to theater fans ever! In the past six months, I have found out about on-sale dates for shows I wanted to see; chuckled over humorous posts by stage actors of whom I'm a fan; learned behind-the-scenes info about favorite shows and shared thoughts and opinions about shows I've seen with other theater fans. Many shows have their own Twitter feeds, as do many actors. Of course you don't have to actually "tweet" yourself to enjoy the fun of Twitter; you can just lurk and be an avid "follower." But I've had fun learning how to express myself in 140 characters...if you know me at all, you will know that this might just be one of the hardest things I've ever done :).
Twitter is free and you can set your privacy levels where you want them. This is not facebook, where you need to be "friends" with those you follow on Twitter. You do not need to reveal anything you don't want known. Here are some of the general Theater Twitter accounts I've been enjoying: @godspellgirl @broadwayspotted @broadwaybuzz @BroadwayGirl @nytimesarts @nytheater @SethRudetsky And of course the show Twitter accounts are great for bonus info and sharing in the excitement before and after you see the show. Here are some current ones: @BwayGodspell @SuperstarBway @StarcatcherBway @Newsies @TheBestManBway @OnceMusical @NiceWorkBway @H2SBway @MaryPoppins
